Thanks for joining us today SS.hh.a.n.a, tell us about yourself

I am 20 years old, currently graduating from University and have always known I would pursue my dreams in music. Ever since I was very young music has played an important role in my background and was my way of finding myself. I’ve grown up listening to all genres of music and although I’ve always known I wanted to sing, I also studied dance from ballet to jazz in order to compliment my passion for the performing arts.

greatest inspirations or influences?

Definitely I would say my mother has been my greatest inspiration and role model.  I don’t know anyone stronger than her, no matter how much weight she carried on her shoulders, she’s never stopped pushing me from doing what I truly love. All I’ve received is pure encouragement, and support teaching me to always be grateful, happy, disciplined and to be independent. In regards to artists that inspire me, I would say I am influenced by the greatest pop icons from all decades.

how has this pandemic affected your creativity?

This pandemic gave me time to do what I love most, (singing). It also gave me the courage  to experiment with my creativity so I learned how to play the guitar and started writing my own songs.

what are the themes you touch on with your new work/music?  or some info from a personal level that helps people understand what you are expressing with music.

What I want to express with my music is to allow people to relate to the emotions and relate to the lyrics.

For me, music is the best way to express how you feel, it can move you to dance and feel unexplainable joy or it can make you cry. It is directly connected to the heart and emotions and mind which makes it a whole experience.  It’s the most universal, beautiful, free and unconditional company you can have.

how do you see the world and the music changing as we move forward into unchartered territory with covid, and a new world?

I would say that no matter what! we shouldn’t stop singing and chasing our dreams especially in the music industry. We can always find a way to share our love for music. If history taught us anything it is that music and dance transcends space and time. We can still spread our music through social media and connect with people virtually. That said, I can’t wait to get back to the life where we can return to experiencing live music at concerts.

Anything else. (maybe here we can talk about the music video) and what its all about, etc.

As the album (and single “deeper me” talks about the various layers of character and surface relationships we often have without giving it a chance to look deeper into one selves and other close relationships, the music video also picks up on that thread. It talks about how in my generation the cell phone is the ultimate layer that prohibits getting deeper into one self and the relationship you are in, always distracted always elsewhere always whilst together - apart. There are many more subliminal layered visual references in there that ultimately hint on the fact that we could all do a little more “letting go” and discover the deeper more interesting and honest character traits of people around us.
