NATALIA SKOTNICKA PHOTOGRAPHY
Natalia is a young photographer living and working in Warsaw, Poland and still looking for her place on earth. Although she is a fashion photographer, she is considering turning to psychology in the near future to fulfill her empathetic nature.
Your greatest inspirations or influences Natalia?
David Bowie is my main icon and inspiration. His lifestyle, lyrics ... etc
When it comes to photography, it's definitely Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh. I think they portrayed women in an amazing way.
Women are my main inspiration. When I photograph them naked, they are more than just bodies for me ... they are souls and they want to show them to me, it is very inspiring and touching. I also like to photograph fashion, where we can be whatever we want.
How has this year impacted your creativity?
This year was very hard for me in many ways, I had to deal with a move, a heartbreak, a pandemic, self-discovery, but the point is, you can hopefully capture from my photos is that my creative process was more intense and full of emotions. It was the most beautiful year and the worst one. I learned to be alone,.
What will this year bring? I don't know, I go with the flow and make my dreams come true. Carpe diem.
My work has become more mature, because I became more aware as a woman. My photos reflect me at that particular moment. It is a beautiful feeling. I think the world is changing and we are changing with it. I think we needed to stop for a moment ... I think that everything is happening for a reason. I do not hide, I miss traveling freely, art galleries and all the rest. Maybe thanks to this we will appreciate all that we have.
Icons in your opinion?
I am an old soul. Now it's hard to call someone an icon, it is a strong term.
Does the art world need to change?
I think there are still many taboos, but there is art to evoke positive and negative emotions. I don't think it changes. I also think that a lot of people take the easy way and this is the problem of our time. My point is, "normal" is more commercial. For me, art is to express my secret center and I do not inhibit it in any way, I indulge in it and I do not feel embarrassed, I like to break the boundaries in the industry.
Nudity is still a problem for many people, which I completely do not understand. Instagram often blocks my posts, and deletes them. People are premeditated to submit my photos. There is nothing wrong with them, the body is shown as something artistic. Nudity is natural, we all have a body.
What does well being mean to you Natalia?
Well-being is very important in general taking care of my mental health, art is therapy for me and it leads me to peace of mind. Art is my liberation. Man is a harmonious whole, a substantial unity of soul and body - a psychophysical unity. I noticed that I create more on the bad days. Everything is created from how one feels, then the works take on different colors. I perceive the world differently every day.
