I am a Contemporary Artist, born and raised in Lagos and from Ogun state, Nigeria. I got the name Olisco from an acronym “Our Little Idea Shall Conquer Obstacle “

Your greatest inspirations or influences?

My environment/ society influenced me. Growing up. it wasn’t easy and I faced a lot of challenges. Many people are told they can’t aim high, but I never quit. Art not only was a relief, it allowed me to express myself, my feelings, and the things going on inside of me, onto a surface. Also other artists who aim to inspire one another to be great.

Tell us about your creative process Olamide

My kind of art fuses a figurative expression using charcoal with colors making it contemporary, its talks about situations in African society. The skin is an essential thing I love to create which requires focusing on details, also it’s accompanied with vibrant colors , then I sum it Up with Bubbles (this captures the moment of pressure also, the situation we find ourselves is temporal) .

My art tends to dialogue with its viewers, calling their attention to catharsis and make them wonder how on earth it was made with hands. I make use of Acrylic, Graphite, charcoal carbon on either strathmore, alabaster paper or canvas.

How has this year affected you as an artist?

So far, This year has been great. One is able to express himself. Also I see African Art having its place all over and uniting world, eradicating Racism.

Who do you see as an icon of our time?

I see myself as one. We are all different in our own ways. We are who we portray ourselves to be.

Do you think the art world needs to change or improve?

Well, Change is constant and I believe when it is time it will. African art will be more appropriated.

What does wellbeing mean to you?

Wellbeing …. To me it means being Free and Appreciated.
