CONVERSATION WITH SPANISH MUSIC PRODUCER NAU LEONE

CONVERSATION WITH SPANISH MUSIC PRODUCER NAU LEONE

“The music comes and goes. The music accompanies. But it is in the moments when we feel most vulnerable that it penetrates us the deepest. Music moves us. It is who we are. We couldn’t be without music. Change is the centre of our lives. Life is a constant change.”

Music Producer Nau Leone was born and raised Madrid, Spain. His love for music began when he discovered punk rock, and then club culture. He began producing electronic music, creating unique landscapes where electronic music is transformed into a pure cinematic environment.

He’s established a strong presence in the music industry, having produced music for the Netflix and collaborated with the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Ian Urbina on his The Outlaw Ocean Music Project, a curated sound library. Nau has also received support from major names, such as Black Coffee, Faithless, and Claptone, and takes inspiration from Bonobo, Caribou, Four Tet, Paul Kalkbrenner, and Moderat.

Greatest inspirations or influences?

My influences include a wide range of genres from Soundtrack to diverse genres in the electronic music scene, including also pop, jazz or punk rock artists. But some names and artists I admire are: Moderat, Bonobo, Olafur Arnalds, Kiasmos, Jamie xx, Jon Hopkins, Four Tet, Aphex twin, Brian Eno, Apparat, Christian Loffler, Parra for Cuva, Caribou, Paul Kalkbrenner to name a few...

Tell us about your latest single, and the creative process behind it.

'Nº7 Fuerza' is the last single from my upcoming album CAMBIO. In my album, I talk about the different stages on any process of change. Fuerza means Strength, and represents the last stage. You may have passed through very difficult times during these changes, but now you're stronger.

For this song I decided that I wanted to use the brass section of an orchestra to make it sound powerful. During the creative process I also decided to record my own voice to add some melodies and ambients. Everything combined with the electronica part, synths and percussion build this single.

Upcoming projects or collaborations you have going on.

Right now I'm focusing on the album release and my tour. My live set recorded in Gran Canaria for Nature Code was released a couple days ago, I'm traveling to Vancouver next week for a gig... musically everything looks amazing right now!

How does innovation affect your work and creativity?

It's a very important part. I like to repeat some elements and leave my trademark, but you know a project is going to be special when you innovate and try different things. Sometimes it can go wrong, but most of the time you'll learn new things and challenge yourself to discover new worlds.

What does wellbeing mean to you?

To be healthy (body, mind and soul).

Anything else you would like to share. Thank you!

Thanks for the interview!  Would love to visit the US soon, maybe it's time to plan a tour.. (any promoters in the room?)
