Exploring the Multifaceted Artistry of Joe Taveras

Exploring the Multifaceted Artistry of Joe Taveras

Joe Taveras is a mixed-media artist with studios scattered across the United States. Taveras's artistic odyssey began in March 2020, a pivotal moment that marked the genesis of his obsession with painting. From that point forward, he found himself venturing into uncharted territories and unlocking doors of opportunity that he never knew existed. Before delving into the realm of art, Taveras was entrenched in the world of robotics, carving out a niche for himself as a dealer in the industry. However, fate had other plans in store for him. As the pandemic gripped the world and his professional trajectory took an unexpected turn, Taveras found himself at a crossroads. It was during this tumultuous period that he experienced an epiphany while leisurely painting a portrait of the Buddha—a moment that would alter the course of his life forever.

Driven by an insatiable thirst for creativity, Taveras made the bold decision to pivot towards an art career, forsaking the familiarity of the robotics industry. With each brushstroke, he poured his soul into his creations, dedicating countless hours to honing his craft. Despite the uncertainty that loomed over him, Taveras remained steadfast in his pursuit of artistic excellence, painting tirelessly into the early hours of the morning.

Throughout his journey, Taveras's background in robotics has served as a wellspring of inspiration, infusing his art with a unique blend of innovation and ingenuity. The concept of motion, a recurring theme in his work, is a testament to his fascination with the interplay between art and technology. Through meticulous studies in light, physics, chaos, and the subconscious mind, Taveras crafts mesmerizing artworks that captivate the senses and evoke a sense of wonder.

Taveras's artistic journey is characterized by a seamless fusion of abstract and rational thought. Rejecting the confines of linear time, he effortlessly transitions between realms of abstract expressionism and concrete imagery. For Taveras, art is not merely a product of conscious deliberation but a spontaneous manifestation of his innermost thoughts and emotions. In his exploration of abstract art, Taveras uncovers a profound authenticity of expression that transcends the limitations of representation. Free from the constraints of ego-driven perception, his works resonate with a raw and unfiltered energy, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of their own consciousness. Through abstract forms and colors, Taveras communicates a universal language that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, unlocking new realms of introspection and understanding.

Central to Taveras's artistic philosophy is his exploration of the relationship between matter, motion, and the surrounding environment. Drawing inspiration from the laws of physics and the interconnectedness of the universe, he delves into the subtle nuances of energy and vibration. By entering a state of flow during the creative process, Taveras channels the rhythms of his surroundings onto the canvas, resulting in artworks that serve as a visual manifestation of the cosmic dance of existence.

What is a typical day in the studio like?

Every day is different. I sleep based on my energy levels, not based on day/night scheduling, so sometimes I will wake up at nighttime or random hours of the day, but usually, when I wake up I like to have a cup of coffee. Once that first cup is down pretty much anything can happen. Sometimes I jump straight into painting, other times I jump straight into jumping, literally just blasting music and jumping around for a bit. When I do that, I get inspired to make music. If I start producing music, I have noticed a pattern where I will continue to make music obsessively for 2-3 days. If I cannot get trapped in a music production hole, I find myself in the vortex of creation and destruction. Instantly hopping from painting to printmaking to poetry to dancing to crying to writing to painting again, until I need to sleep to continue again, not tomorrow, but when I wake up.

How do you maintain a creative life?

When you have a strong sense of internal locus of control, you can feel that your actions have real creative consequences in your work. If you continue pushing yourself in this direction, you find that not only do all of your actions become creative but they also all orient you toward your highest self. It is a recursive process of growth that is satisfying in both the near and long term. 10/10, 5 Stars, would recommend!

What does well-being mean to you?

When I hear “well-being,” I think about a positive baseline of consciousness. A state of well-being can be a physical reality, but it can also be mentally fabricated. I believe in the infinite power of the human mind and very often I will conjure up a fabrication within my mind to serve as a new baseline of well-being. I do this with the sole purpose of manifesting new experiences or situations into reality.

What is next for you?

This spring, I will be exhibiting my work in a group exhibition in Los Angeles. Creating art, discussing the future, spreading ideas, and traveling the world—this is the life that I always dreamed of and I am grateful every day to be here now.
