Revisiting the 90's Super Model Era

Revisiting the 90's Super Model Era

KarolinaMuller Model

Interview with Karolina Muller, a model in the world’s most exciting fashion era, the Supermodel 90’s.

Born in a small town of Elbląg, in what was then communistic Poland, Karolina Muller raised to the top of the fashion industry just a short while after being discovered by a photographer when she was still in high school. She moved to the U.S. and spent majority of her life in New York City. As a high fashion model she worked with the most prestigious designers/brands including Versace, Chanel, Dior and Ralph Lauren. She was photographed for magazines and designers all over the world by iconic photographers that defined that era in fashion; Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi and Patrick Demarchelier.

"The supermodel era of the 90’s was truly exhilarating. Modeling in fact was something that landed in my lap by accident and I took a chance on it.  I walked the runways for the best designers with iconic Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Nadia Auermann and Gisele Bundchen.  Those were very exciting yet demanding days. I had to become a business woman practically over night.I then learned at a very young age how to be self motivated, disciplined and self sufficient. Acting however was my childhood dream so when the 90’s supermodel era ended, I made a smooth transition to acting. I studied the craft with passion, started building my acting portfolio and I continue working on it to this day.

A year ago she moved to Switzerland, but continue traveling the world to fulfill her passion for acting.

Karolina your greatest inspirations or influences?

Personally speaking, I take inspiration from many different sources, wether it’s in the form of art or simply the people I encounter.

What do you feel your meaning in life to be?

I believe that everyone is unique and therefore, it’s completely up to us to find our gift, our purpose and then share it with others. I want to continue developing myself in acting, and share my experience with the audience. I believe that to be my legacy as a professional performer.

What are some causes that mean something to you?

Apart from working in the entertainment and fashion industry, charity work has always been close to my heart. There are many causes of huge importance and just not enough awareness. I believe that Climate Change is critical at this point and so is the worldwide poverty, mental health and human rights. Last year I worked on Action Innocence in Geneva, Switzerland.

How has the fashion world changed since you got your start in it?

Indeed my showbiz adventure started in the 90’s when there was no widespread internet or social media. It’s completely different now. The industry has changed tremendously with Social Networks. Nowadays there’s also a lot of attention to body shaming, so to be a model doesn’t mean to be skinny or anorexic looking anymore. Internet had a huge impact on the industry and I believe it will only continue developing. A lot of magazines and publications have shut down and are being replaced by online businesses. Also, nowadays it’s enough to have Instagram to be a model or influencer etc.

“Far better is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits, who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat”. By Theodore Roosevelt
